LibDems confirm massive opposition to CityBus sell-off, as they ask local people for their views on Devonport nuclear sub plans9.10.00pm GMT Fri 6th Nov 2009
Just one person in 25 supports the sell-off of CityBus, according to a poll on the Plymouth Lib Dems' website. A total of 301 people took part in the poll, which showed 96 per cent support for keeping CityBus in public hands. Responding, Dr Judy Evans, the party's prospective parliamentary candidate in the city's new Sutton & Devonport constituency, said: "It is clear that city residents agree with the local Lib Dems, and oppose any sell-off plans. Plymouth residents have made their views clear time and again. The council should start listening." The party's website is now running a new poll, on the possibility that the Ministry of Defence might start breaking up its old nuclear submarines at the Devonport naval base. They are asking local people: "Do you want Devonport to be used to break up old nuclear subs? Yes or no." The poll is on the front page of their website, http://www.plymouth-libdems.org.uk/
